LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT: RESOURCES

This page offers short video clips capturing key learnings from the leadership development sessions and other useful resources to assist you on your leadership journey.

PRACTICE 01: MODEL THE WAY

In the first video of the series, Craig Laviano re-caps the key elements of "Model the Way"—and discusses what gets in the way of us being able to model the way as leaders.

As Craig explains, we're often prevented from being our best selves as leaders by "the toxic trio": our need to look good, to be right, and to be in control.

PRACTICE 02: INSPIRE A SHARED VISION

In our second video, we explore additional practical ways to apply Leadership Practice #2, Inspire a Shared Vision.  We build off the work we did in our group session around regarding how making the connection between my personal “why” and the Dynavax vison provides us with a source of inspiration.

We extend this to look closely at our leadership responsibility to help those around us make that same connection. Along the way we discover that the key ingredient in enabling inspiration to emerge with others is to be intentional around how we apply the most fundamental—and valuable—leadership skill of all: listening.

PRACTICE 03: CHALLENGE THE PROCESS

In our third video, we explore how an action-oriented mindset is foundations to Leadership Practice #3, Challenge the Process.  We’re also reminded of the importance of reflection as a key element in Kolb’s learning cycle and how this is something that we need to practice with intention by ourselves and with our teams.

Finally, we look again at IDEO’s “Mantra” for effective group process as we challenge ourselves to unlock the collective power and capability of our Dynavax teams.

PRACTICE 04: ENABLE OTHERS TO ACT

Our fourth video explores three additional strategies for applying Leadership Practice #4, Enable Others to Act. First we examine how by sharing our relationships with others we can create a higher level of engagement and contribution well as accelerate growth and development.

Next we review the importance of being reciprocal in our relationship. By being focused on how we can support and give to others, we lay the foundation for creating stronger more enduring relationships. Finally, we explore how we can help others find their “Flow” and the strategic part we can play in enabling effortless and expert contribution to manifest.
